Five years
“I can’t believe it’s been five years already.” she says (one of many times this weekend).
“I know.” I reply, suddenly solemn. “It would be though… I was on the phones at the time.”
I’d been working at the telecentre as a service delivery agent.
“I remember when Karla came in and told me a plane had crashed into the first tower.” I recount, and though she’s heard the story quite a few times in the last five years, she listens. And despite the fact that she knows each word I will say, she hears what I am saying. Her mind is not wandering, recollecting her own memories. She is there with me completely.

Watchful Expressions
I love to watch people read. There’s something very engaging about watching their expression change as their eyes pass over the pages. Children are especially fun to watch, as they have not yet gained the ability to control their expressions… they haven’t nailed their poker face, so to speak.
I think this is why I love to watch people reading my work, though most hate being watched and will go out of their way to appear emotionless if they know there are eyes upon them. What they don’t realize is that they are taking all of the fun out of the experience. We want to see their eyebrows raise, furrow or twitch. We want to catch that slight cocking of the head, a curious look upon their face for a moment. We live for these emotions.

Podcast Planning
You may have noticed a new button on the right. Yes, I am toying with the idea of starting a Podcast wherein I would perform some of the pieces published here on The Frozen Man.
I’ve always loved performing my work, though have not gotten much of a chance to do so as of late. There aren’t many venues for that where I currently live.
There’s something very moving about hearing your written words aloud. I always make certain to read my pieces out loud as I am rewriting them, as this helps ensure that the words flow nicely upon the tongue. That being said, to perform them for others is simple bliss.

Shaken Confidence
I came to the conclusion a few weeks back that I cannot write. I am but a babe at the foot of giants whose literary works leave me breathless and confused.
I want to make it very clear that I am not being melodramatic, nor am I seeking any type of encouragement. I am merely voicing what has been going on in my mind for several weeks now.

Too Much Honesty?
Is there such a thing as too much honesty?
Well, in real life, I’d have to say yes. It’s just common sense. There are thoughts which only you should have because to spew them onto an unsuspecting victim may not solve anything. Sometimes these truths are harsh because of something that is intrinsically you. Sometimes, the words in your mind are simply rude and would serve no other purpose than to hurt/insult/demean/etc.

Stimulating Creativity (One Word At A Time)
One = one
One word = two
One true word = three
This is not to say that I count words when writing. I don’t care how thin or thick a story is. There really is no sense in making a piece wordy for the sake of a couple extra nickels. However you can’t help but measure a story or blog entry by its size when it has so little meat on it. When you find that you spend more time staring at a blank page or screen, there is little else to keep you writing.

Punch Buggy
I stumbled upon an old blog entry over at My Mean Girl: Road and Off-the-road Rage. In it, he talks about his girlfriend’s punch-buggy antics. Apparently, anything qualifies for a slug on the arm for her. I have to admit that I’ve done the same with my kids, just to get that “hey, you can’t punch for a schoolbus!"… and despite my unjustified abuse, they won’t retaliate unless they spot a VW bug.

Damn Internet Nonsense
I’ve been in a pissy mood with part of the internet community for the last week or so… namely the younger gamers who frequent popular review sites and act like macho jackasses. Let me preface this by saying that this type of behavior normally doesn’t phase me. In fact, I find it pitifully funny. It’s when these idiots start spewing racist/bigoted/prejudiced nonsense that I wish I lived close enough that I could drive to their respective (parents) homes and slap each kid squarely on the back of the head.

A Warped Society
The thing I love most about capitalist societies is the ability of people to create such an arsenal of techniques for screwing others over, financially. I went to the Warped Tour in Minneapolis last month. Throughout the day, my friends and I learned how to sucker people out of their money, if we ever host such an event ourselves. Now, don’t get me wrong, I had an incredible time that day. I’m just slightly bitter about the hole that was burned in my pocket.

Worn
My method is different than any other photographer I know of, and arguably very backwards. With very few exceptions, all of my photos exist simply because I thought they looked cool, for whatever reason. My primary motive is to capture beauty, be it natural or man-made.
